HS Choir and Guitar

4th Quarter 2017-2018

GREAT NEWS!

The High School Choir went to Choral Performance Assessment (our contest) on February 28. They received a composite rating of Excellent(II), with a recommendation for them to go on to the All-State Festival on April 13th. I’m so proud of the work they’ve done, and look forward to taking them to UCA in April to perform on the Big Stage.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

High School Guitar will perform on Monday, May 1st, as part of the Fine Arts Night program in the HS Gym. Fine Arts Night will feature musicians from the guitar ensembles, the band, the high school choir, and a gallery of pieces created by our talented Art students. As we get closer to the date, more information will be posted here and a letter with the schedule of events will be sent home with the students.

High School Choir will give a short performance on Monday, May 1st, as part of the Fine Arts Night program in the HS gym. They will also perform at the Summer Blastoff! Concert on Friday, May 4th. This concert will feature solo and small group performances of Popular and Broadway songs as well as choral arrangements of music from various films such as “The Greatest Showman” and “Moana.”  I apologize for the change in the schedule from our handbook; it became clear as the programs developed that our Summer Blastoff material doesn’t fit the theme of the Fine Arts performance, and would make that evening run very, very long. Having the Blastoff on a different night has the added benefit of giving the students a chance to perform the solos and small ensembles they’ve been wanting to do all year long. A letter with the updated schedule and other information will be sent home to students as the details are finalized, and will the details will be posted here.

PLANS FOR THIS QUARTER:

Guitar Ensemble will divide its time this 9 weeks between preparing for the performance on May 1st and our annual Songwriting Project. We will start by writing a song as a class, then work in groups, and finally will write songs on our own. I look forward to seeing what the students create!

High School Choir will be working to prepare for All-State Festival and for our Blastoff! Concert. We will also be hosting a “High School Chorist for a Day” event to welcome our incoming 8th grade students and performing for the 8th grade orientation event. Both of these recruiting events will be during the school day.

After the concerts, we will divide the last few weeks between focusing on music fundamentals, enjoying some music appreciation exercises, and holding a Songwriting Project of our own.
